Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge is one of those birding destinations where a day list of 100 species is possible most of the year. The refuge itself is about 36,000 acreas and about 9000 are open to the public. Most of the refuge is coastal prairie and wetlands. There are several miles of the shore of east bay available. The Skillern Tract offers about a mile of riparian habitat along East Bay Bayou.
